Wilson Montessori built its Children's Garden with Urban Harvest end August 2010 with funds raised by Friends of Montessori at Wilson. The children and teachers in each classroom receive one hour's instruction once a month by Urban Harvest instructor Irene Nava. Each classroom looks after 1/3 to 1/2 of a vegetable plot. Teachers are encouraged to take their classrooms out more than once a month for further care and instruction.
Carrots, cauliflower, beets, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, radishes, lettuces, collards, cilantro, garlic, onions, snap peas
Pole beans, carrots, cilantro, squash, melons, cucumber, basil, sunflowers, okra, eggplant, Irish potatoes, lettuce, sweet potatoes, parsley, peppers, tomatoes
Citrus trees (kumquatm satsuma, lemon), apple, pomegranate and fig trees
Tuition for our Urban Harvest instructor costs around $14,000 per year. These funds were raised by Friends of Montessori at Wilson for the 2010/11 - 2012/13 school years. Wilson PTO will take over future fundraising to continue our collaboration with Urban Harvest. Please consider making a straight tax-deductible donation to the PTO for our Urban Harvest program.
